Job Summary

Functions in our group include safety, project field management, construction management, quality control, start up and decommissioning and field engineering.
Establish and oversee the comprehensive vision, strategy, standards, and governance for survey operations throughout BV, BVCI, and OCI. Act as the sole accountable authority for ensuring survey quality, safety, staffing, and technology across the entire organization.
Key Responsibilities
Define and uphold the organizational structure of the Survey Department, clearly outlining roles, reporting relationships, and essential responsibilities.
Develop and enforce corporate survey standards and procedures encompassing control networks, layout tolerances, as-built requirements, CAD/TBC workflows, and data management protocols.
Establish expectations for survey involvement throughout all stages of the project lifecycle, including proposal, design, constructability review, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
Approve strategies and budgets for survey staffing, addressing in-house crew allocations, utilization of subcontracted surveyors, and acquisition of major equipment.
Provide oversight and guidance to Survey Directors at BVCI (union) and OCI (non-union), offering coaching and constructive performance feedback.
Promote and ensure a culture of safety within the survey function, integrating survey-specific risk mitigation into operational procedures and training-such as exposure to heavy equipment, work near edges, and night operations.
Act as the survey subject matter expert for executive leadership, engineering teams, and construction management.
Advocate for technological innovation (including GNSS, robotics, scanning, machine control, UAVs, etc.) and guarantee consistent implementation across all projects.
Establish and monitor metrics for survey performance, covering quality, productivity, rework, safety, staffing levels, and cost efficiency.
Demonstrates strategic thinking by effectively balancing long-term improvements with immediate project requirements.
Communicates clearly and directly, adept at engaging both field personnel and executive stakeholders.
Provides calm and reliable leadership during high-pressure scenarios such as scheduling challenges, major layout disputes, and claims.
Establishes and sustains trust among field teams and corporate leadership alike.
Exhibits a strong commitment to mentoring, fostering the development of Survey Directors, Project Survey Managers, and promising Party Chiefs.
Management Responsibilities
Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.
Minimum Qualifications
15-20+ years' experience in construction survey, geomatics, or related fields on major projects.
Bachelor's degree in surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
Expert knowledge of GNSS, robotic and conventional total stations, levels, and modern data collectors.
Strong proficiency in Trimble Business Center, Trimble Access, CAD platforms, and model-based workflows.
Proven ability to plan and oversee large survey operations including control networks and site calibrations.
Solid grasp of contract structures, commercial risk, and how survey errors affect cost and schedule.
Demonstrated success leading multi-project, Mega Projects, multi-discipline survey operations.
Proven ability to manage budgets, justify investments, and improve organizational performance.
Experience supporting construction operations, workforce programs, and/or field enablement in a multi-site environment
Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search).
